Start your 8 day adventure in the nation’s capital of Wellington before
crossing Cook Strait through the magnificent Marlborough Sound to Picton where
you explore the rugged west coast of the South Island exploring the Abel Tasman
National Park and enjoying a walk on ice at the amazing Fox Glacier.
Itinerary
Day 1. Wellington. Today enjoy a guided tour at the Te Papa, the National
Museum of New Zealand. Check out the local sights and sounds before enjoying
dinner tonight. Stay: Wellington, Bay Plaza Hotel Dx1
Day 2. Wellington, Nelson. Board our Interislander cruise for a journey across
Cook Strait through the Marlborough Sound to Picton where we take a journey to
Nelson, well known for its wineries, breweries and its local arts and crafts
community. Two Night Stay: Nelson, Trailways Motor Lodge. Bx1 Dx1
Day 3. Abel Tasman National Park. Today you have the whole day to explore one
of the most beautiful regions of New Zealand. Abel Tasman National Park is
renowned for its golden beaches, sculptured granite cliffs and its world-famous
coastal track. Bx1
Day 4 Nelson, Punakaiki. Our journey today takes us alongside the Nelson Lakes
National Park with time to explore. We have the opportunity to visit Lake
Rotoiti or Lake Rotoroa and enjoy short walks. Tonight, our overnight stay is
at Punakaiki, at the foothills of the Paparoa National Park with views of West
Coast beaches. Stay: Punakaiki Rocks Hotel. Bx1 Dx1
Day 5. Punakaiki, Fox Glacier. This morning, you have the chance to explore
Punakaiki further. There are caving adventures, with the chance to go
abseiling, as well as beach and bush walks. See Punakaiki’s famous Pancake
rocks. Continue our journey this afternoon, travelling through Franz Josef and
on to Fox Glacier village in Westland National Park. Two Night Stay: Fox
Glacier, Glacier Country Hotel. Bx1 Dx1
Day 6. Fox Glacier. Rising early this morning we take a dawn walk alongside
Lake Matheson. Later, enjoy free time to explore or take a scenic flight. The
fun begins this afternoon when we tackle Fox Glacier. Our guide will lead us
beside a riverbed to a track which zig-zags uphill through ferns and
regenerating temperate rainforest. The route takes you onto the ice among
crevasses and ice ridges and leads you into the middle of the glacier for views
of the icefalls and lower glacier. Bx1
Day 7. Fox Glacier, Queenstown. We continue south today, through Haast Pass to
the adrenaline capital, Queenstown. We have the next two days here to discover
this incredible, year-round alpine resort. It is an exhilarating town perfect
for adventurers and leisure-seekers alike, nestled on the shores of Lake
Wakatipu and overlooked by the majestic Southern Alps. Three Night Stay:
Queenstown, A-Line Hotel. Bx1 Dx1 Day 8. Queenstown. After breakfast your tour
finishes, with the rest of your day free to explore Queenstown. Bx1
